Let’s change the way we change

The big picture

Today, humans stand at a turbulent crossroad.

Shifting to a new way of thinking, working and living, is essential — not optional — for our companies, organizations and for our communities. From this crossroad, we can see the decline of our dominant, failing paradigm and the emergence of a new forward-thinking one.

More and more people are becoming change makers, investing time, skills and energy to get to new results. But these results are sometimes too slow, have limited impact or are not sustainable.

It is time to energize and activate this momentous and urgent shift.  It is time to embody a new story. This is why we created the Change Makers Factory®.

The change makers factory purpose & mission

At CMF,

our purpose is to help create a healthy and sustainable balance between humans, organizations and the planet. Now.

we uncover, activate and empower local change forces in for-profit and non-profit organizations, and help you to make an impact in your organization and sphere of influence.

 The new context

We need to change the way we change.

Organizations often deal with several changes at the same time; change that is ongoing and accelerated requires us to be smarter, strategic.

We have learned that the best way to change practices is no longer vertical (top-down, bottom-up) but horizontal, through peer-to-peer interactions and actions.

Change strategies must be designed with a holistic approach — starting with the individual and moving horizontally toward the systemic.

The change makers of today should be the leaders of our organisations tomorrow.

What is a change maker?

“Change maker” can be defined as a movement maker who brings to life new habits of thinking, working and living.

Change makers are people of all colors, genders, professions, ages and backgrounds.

Change makers want to help others embrace the possibility of change, involve them in new paths of action, and move them through obstacles.

 Who & where are they?

Change makers can be anywhere within an organization. Peer-to-peer change works when there are change makers at every level. The goal is to activate 10 to 15% of the people inside an organization. The more change makers spread throughout the organization, the more successful the changes will be.

The factory is a space where people can learn to use tools, processes and methods for a common goal.

It’s for focused creating and skills-building that can reach and house diverse groups of people.

The CMF Manifesto

We, at the change makers factory, share a common consciousness about environmental destruction, economic disparity and social injustice.

Today, humans stand at a turbulent crossroad questioning the fundamental assumptions and rules by which society operates. From this crossroad, we can see the decline of our dominant, failing paradigm and the emergence of a new forward-thinking one.

Those of us who are committed to giving shape to this new paradigm recognize the ruptures at different levels of the current system: ecological, technological, economic, organizational and ethical.  These ruptures are all interconnected. Shifting to a new paradigm, a new way of thinking and living, is essential, not optional. Not for our companies nor for our communities.

Therefore, a small group of people from different countries, cultures, backgrounds and with different professional expertise decided to act and create the Change Makers Factory (CMF).

It is time to energize and activate this momentous and urgent shift. It is time to write a new story. To act while we still can.

Change maker defined:

“Change makers” can be defined as movement makers who bring to life new habits of thinking, working and living. They are people of all colors, genders, ages and backgrounds. Those who join and participate in the change makers factory will be able to help others embrace the possibility of change, involve them in new paths of action, and help them move through obstacles.

Our purpose

Our purpose is to help create a healthy and ongoing balance between humans, their impact, and the planet. Now.

Our mission

In order to embody this purpose, more change makers are needed.

As a consequence, our mission is to uncover, activate and empower global and local change forces in for-profit and non-profit organizations, and help them to make an impact in their sphere of influence.

Types of change makers: internal and external

An internal change maker is a doer, a facilitator, a leader, and often, an early adopter who influences and acts inside his or her company or institution to achieve a needed change.

An external change maker is a citizen, volunteer, activist or specialist, who individually influences and acts to effect changes in his or her community, city or country.

Mechanics of change:

More and more people are becoming internal and external change makers. They invest time, skills and energy to get new results. But these results are sometimes frustratingly inadequate, too slow, of very low impact or simply unsustainable.

The difference between low and high impact hinges on the existence of a new story to tell ourselves, and one that engages and activates others.

Change strategies must be designed with a holistic approach — starting with the individual and moving toward the systemic. At change makers factory, we are not all experts in decarbonization, organic agriculture or climate science, but we are specialists in the mechanics of change; we inspire and activate makers of change.

Our beliefs and values

• We believe that the change makers themselves are the most powerful levers to convince and engage people around them if they are aligned with their own clearly identified purposes and values.

• We believe that citizens and workers can become local and global change makers if they are well-prepared and skilled in the use of high impact tools and critical thinking.

• We believe that companies and institutions urgently need local task forces of change makers, ready to activate the important transformations which are and will be required.

• We believe that change makers need a gathering place; we therefore reclaim the metaphor of the factory. Our factory is

- A place where people can be together, think together, and make things with others;

- A place where people can learn to use tools, processes and methods for a common goal;

- And a space of learning and creating that can reach and house diverse groups of people.

• We believe that change makers need to be visible and valued, so that they can be promoted, recruited, and supported by others in their community or organization.

You, as a leader & a change maker in a for-profit or non-profit organization:

If you want to activate a new paradigm and creative solutions with a growing number of people in this unprecedented crossroads; if you want to give shape to a new story and bring together a powerful task force, we invite you to join us and discover how our factory works.

Supporting this manifesto will be an important step.

The next step we can take together.

Want to change the way you change?
